In Memory

David Boney

David Lee Boney, 61, of San Augustine, Texas passed from this life on August 7th, 2022.

David was born in October 1, 1960, in Houston, Texas, to parents Lewis Carroll Boney and Leta Faye Smith.  He spent most of his childhood in Clute, Texas. He graduated from Brazoswood High School in 1979 and moved to East Texas not long after.  He was a long-time resident of San Augustine, who enjoyed every moment of time spent with his children and grandchildren.

David was a skilled carpenter and roofer. If you drove through just about any East Texas town with him, there’d be at least one house he’d point to and say, “I’ve been on that roof” or “I’ve worked on that house.”

In close second to spending time with his children and grandchildren, David enjoyed competitive sports, particularly watching and coaching baseball. David spent many days at the ball field whether playing, coaching, spectating, or yelling at the umpires. David was a yoga and martial arts enthusiast, spending many days teaching and practicing with close friends and family. David loved nature and the outdoors, particularly the ocean. He enjoyed fishing, camping on the beach, and teaching his kids and grandkids to ride the waves. He also loved playing games with his family and friends whether it be Wednesday night horseshoes, throwing darts, or a game of cards.

David loved animals, especially his dog Fonda Jane (Bean), who went everywhere he did. David always saw the good in everyone, but he was never afraid to stand in opposition when it came to his beliefs and protecting those who were unable to stand up for themselves. David was a unique man, with unwavering faith that everything was gonna be alright. He is already greatly missed by so many.

He is survived by his mother Leta of Nacogdoches, Texas, his sons John Arnold and wife Lauren of Blanco, Texas. Wesley Boney of San Francisco, CA, Joseph Boney and wife Alejandra of Nacogdoches, Texas, and daughter Rebecca Boney Huss and husband Karl of Nacogdoches, Texas. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Gibson Arnold, Clover Arnold, Ariel Boney, Phoenix Arnold, Tobias Huss, Paxton Huss, Nora Huss, and Elijah Huss, and sisters Susan Fowler of Austin, Texas and Trish Robertson of California.

He is preceded in death by his father Lewis and brother Steven Boney.
